The Peter Pathway
(Practical Skill)

⤷ FOUR STAGES: Gospel Witness
Witness

10 min

The Peter Pathway is an alternative to the Romans Road and uses only verses from the apostle Peter.

This is a method devised by Gary Miller.  His rationale is as follows:

When my wife and I lived in Romania, we asked a Romanian evangelist what verses he used to share the gospel.  He told us that he always included quotes from Peter because Romanians highly respect Peter, even though, their patron saint is Andrew.

He made a point to say that Peter said it.  Romanians hold church tradition equal to or higher than the Bible.  It does not help to say the "Bible says..." but if you say, "Peter said...." then it carries a lot of weight.  Peter is highly respected because he is believed to be the first Pope.  In their view, this was prior to the Catholic church losing its way and separating from the Orthodox Church. They believe the Peter himself is the Rock the church is built on so returning to his teaching is returning to the foundation of the church.

Incorporating the "Peter said..." into our evangelism greatly increased our effectiveness. It made the Romanians examine the teachings of the evangelical church in a new light.

Instructions:

This is a simple witnessing tool that is quite similar to the Romans Road and can be used in the same way.  The verses need not be shared in order, and extra verses can be shared to reinforce the gospel message.

Since this is designed especially for Catholics and others who have a high regard for Peter, it may be helpful to say "Peter said..." rather that hearing primarily words from the Apostle Paul. What is important is that the person is hearing God's word and accepting it as authoritative and worthy of a response.
